Theta Campaign - Return of the Dragon Queen – Session 38 Pt. 3

This part of this week’s tale begins as our intrepid adventurers face down the horrible draconic amalgamation conjured by Sandria Mortessa.

Alonzo, laying upon the ground covered in painful boils and electrical burns, began to pray for healing, laying his hands upon himself and sealing his own wounds. He stood and brushed himself off, haggard but no longer close to death.

Allistair, covered head-to-toe in agonizing boils, reached a hand out, flinging an orb that would explode into a thunderous explosion at the creature, but the pain from his injuries distracted him, causing his orb to fly wide.

Dolgrak, leaning behind a table with wet britches, drank a blood red potion, healing some of his wounds.

He whimpered out, “Guys! I don’t think we can do this! Can anybody get us out of here?”

“I can.” Replied Alonzo, “We could regroup up top, heal, and try again?”

“I like that idea.” Said Dolgrak.

“Seconded.” Cried out Allistair in pain.

Beezul screamed as he resumed his furious charge towards the creature.

“Alright, everybody to me!” shouted Alonzo.

Beezul halted in the middle of his charge at the command of Alonzo. Without turning his back to the creature, he flew back to the group.

“Prinze? PRINZE!” shouted Dolgrak.

Prinze looked back at the group, upturned his magical bag, and called out, “Potions of Resistance.” Four vials dropped from the bag, which he caught and sat upon the ground.

“Drink these. Stop being wimps.” He said as he charged from the group towards the creature.

His pride would not let him go. His modus operandi would not let him flee. Jotunn would not let this creature live any longer.

Swift as a streaking arrow, he closed the distance between the far wall of the lair and the creature, leaping at the edge of the blood pool. Mid air, Prinze lashed his whips out, embedding them into the creature. The fury of giants swelled through him as he used his wraps to swing himself atop the creature’s head.

Once atop it, he stomped down twice, shattering the shell of hardening blood and sinking his foot into its flesh. With a weak point created, he reeled his head back and bellowed a stream of acid from his mouth into the wound.

The monster began to beat its wings, kicking up another gust in an attempt to throw Prinze off, but he was latched on too tightly with his wraps.

At the sight of Prinze’s bravery, Beezul returned to his charge. As he approached, Bee Drills in hand, the creature clawed at the back of its head at Prinze, raking its talons across his back. It failed to find purchase on the dragonkin, however, unable to tear him from its back.

Seeing the charging Beezul, the creature threw its head forwards and snatched him up in its jaws. With the thrashing kobold secured, it returned to clawing at Prinze, slicing him once more, crunching upon Beezul again, and repeating the process in a frantic, furious pattern.

Unable to safely recall his party to the skyland’s surface above, Alonzo took a moment to assess the condition of the creature that terrorized his party. In the fear and turmoil he had failed to notice that this fleshy amalgam was covered in rips, tears, and leaking wounds that had not healed. There was hope to defeat this creature still.

He took a deep puff off of his cigar, then began a prayer. A moment later Steve reappeared atop the creature's head.

“It’s protected by her blood!” Alonzo called out, “Smash through it Steve!”

The celestial produced a spiked mace made from nothing but light and smashed down at the creature’s head. Once. Twice. Thrice. Nine swings did it make, at the creature, not all finding purchase as it writhed in pain. Once Steve’s first volley of swings had concluded, the monster’s skull was left wide open, revealing its engorged brain inside as blood pooled around it.

The creature continued to claw at Prinze and chew on Beezul. Allistair composed himself, fighting off his urges to flee in light of their exit strategy falling apart. He again called forth his strong feelings and memories of ages past and fired three psychic lances at the creature.

Whispering, “Lathanon must die.” The lances corrected their courses, zeroing in the amalgam, striking it once in the throat, throwing its head off kilter; once in the lower jaw, unhinging it from its head and freeing Beezul; and once in the eye, tearing off a chunk of its skull.

The amalgam became still for but a moment before it plummeted down into the pool of blood beneath it.

Prinze and Beezul tumbled away from the falling colossus, rolling across the bloody floor. Both righted themselves, then peered up to see the head of the creature begin to move back and forth as it sank into the pool.

It came to a halt in its sinking, with the tops of the teeth on the roof of its mouth resting just above the pool of blood. The skull split apart, and out stumbled Sandria Mortessa.

“Perhaps we can call a truce and align our goals towards one another?” she said, focusing her vision on the haggard adventurers.

“Didn’t we already have a truce?” Asked Prinze.

“No, I don’t believe we did, just an agreement for you to rebuild my home that you destroyed.” She replied.

“What can you offer for us to not kill you right now?” he asked.

She placed her hands around her breasts and gave a quick shake.

“I think we’ll need something a little more substantial.” Said Prinze, eyeing the vampiress’ small breasts.

“I have accumulated degrees in many fields of study over my many years amongst the coastland, including law.” She said.

“ We already have a lawyer.” Replied Prinze, “Can you out lawyer our lawyer?”

“I can out lawyer him and out pace him in combat simultaneously.” She said, peering at Allistair.

“Allistair? What do you think?” asked Prinze.

“I think my shadow blade is still cast.” He replied.

“Give us a moment to deliberate.” Said Prinze as he strode towards his party. “If you move from there, deliberations will end and we’re going to make you look like the rest of your children.” He gestured towards the nine ashy skeletons strewn about the lair.

The five caught their breath for a few moments and deliberated the ramifications of accepting a truce. Neither Alonzo nor Dolgrak cared either way, both wanting only to leave and rest after this ordeal. Prinze was fine with formalizing a truce, he did after all enjoy his time with Sandria, and would be fine with maybe pursuing vampirism one day, but both Allistair and Beezul wanted to finish the vampiress off for causing them trouble.

The five approached the waiting Sandria Mortessa, And Prinze stepped forwards, “I’m going to ask you one more time. What can you offer to us that would make a truce worthwhile?”

That is where this week’s tale ends, and next week’s tale will begin.
